What is marriage?

Marriage is an institution designed by God for the healthy functioning of society.

Marriage is a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman that involves physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy. In the beginning of history, the Bible records the marriage of Adam and Eve as a pattern for later time, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). The sanctity of marriage is an image also used to describe the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5: 31-21).

God's plan

"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

"And the LORD God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.' Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: 'This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.' Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." -Genesis 2:18-25

Love

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. (NIV, 1 Peter 3:1-4, 7)

Sex

Sex is a wholesome and normal part of a marriage relationship, and it is for pleasure as well as for reproduction (Genesis 2:24, 18:9-12, Proverbs 5:15-19, Song of Songs 4:1-16). The apostle Paul said neither husband nor wife should deny sexual pleasure to the other (1 Corinthians 7:3-5).

What does the Bible say about interracial marriage and interracial dating?

There is nothing in the Bible that says it is wrong to date or marry a person of a different race.
